THE 2006 REUNION IN REVIEW...

The 2006 reunion began on a Thursday with a two day "Leaders & Best" National Leadership Conference, kicked off by a tour of the campus. For those who hadn't been to campus in a while, it brought an opportunity to experience all the new facilities. Then the conference convened with national caliber speakers and enriching workshops, all centering on leadership in a diverse society. Speakers included:

U of M Regent Kathy White
U of M Regent S. Martin Taylor
U of M Senior Vice Provost Dr. Lester Monts
Rev. Dr. Charles Adams
Veteran Detroit Political Consultant & Media Commentator Adolph Mongo
GlobalHue Advertising CEO Donald Coleman
Former Bank One Senior VP & Current New Detroit CEO Shirley Stancato
Former Wellness Plan CEO & CPA Isadore King
Author and Clinical Therapist Matthew Jones
U.S. Congressman John Conyers

We also invited many other business leaders, educators, community activists, jurists, artists, thinkers, media personalities, sports figures, government officials, and candidates for political office. Over 30 prominent speakers total for this high-powered weekend. The conference wrapped up Friday afternoon.

Friday evening's festivities began in Downtown Detroit (did you know that the University of Michigan was actually founded in Detroit in 1817)? Friday evening featured a social crawl to Detroit's hottest hot spots and restaurants culminating with a comedy show featuring one of our very own, CBS Star Search comedy winner Horace H.B. Sanders.

Saturday started early with a rolling tailgate to Ann Arbor, the best morning party on wheels! Destination: the Alumni Association's Go Blue Tailgate, the perfect kick-off to the football game. After the game, we returned to Detroit for a black tie dinner gala to honor the recipients of the Leonard Sain Esteemed Alumni award and the Five Under Ten awards.

Sunday morning we gathered for a feedback and farewell brunch to wrap up our tricennial celebration.

We are launching an "all out" effort to make the 2007 reunion the best celebration in the history of the RBG or the AAAC, a celebration befitting the Black Alumni of the largest alumni organization in the world. To do that, we need every alum to participate.

We intend to bring 500 Black Alumni to Ann Arbor. To do that, we need you.

Come to the Conference.
Come to the Football Game.
Come to the Gala.
Come to Brunch.
Come celebrate with friends, family, colleagues, and other Wolverines!
